SO ⬇️ I don’t put much personal stuff on my Insta. But this is too important not to. Most people on here won’t know that as well as music journalism I’m also a fulltime carer to my partner, my Queen, Nicola 👑❤️👸 She’s chronically ill & disabled, living with 16 different conditions. Many of these we’re paying to have treated privately, even though we have free healthcare in the UK. It’s because many of her conditions simply aren’t treated properly by the National Health Service. One of these is her seizures, which are becoming more frequent. See the clip in this post, the full video is on my #YouTube. They make her completely bed-ridden for days afterwards, and also impair her cognitive function. She is left extremely distressed after each one. She has two different types: focal autonomic aware and tonic clonic. She’s had six in the past four days. I’ve been able to afford most of the medical bills. But it’s got to the stage where we need to get various specialists to see her over the seizures, before they get any worse. And it’s a cost I hadn’t budgeted for. So, we’re currently fundraising to get the money together to have her seen by neurocardio/pulmonary specialists, as we think part of the reason she has them is to do with her heart and lung function. 60 years since the death of this extraordinary artiste #BillieHoliday Billie Holiday was my father's musical idol. A semi pro jazz musician himself, he was one of Kenny Ball's "Jazzmen" for a time. I was brought up immersed in constant performances on the trumpet, clarinet and tenor sax. Legendary artists like Holiday, Vaughan, Fitzgerald, Satchmo, Ellington, Basie and many more were on loop on his 12" player. That musical grounding shaped my own tastes, and also in a previous life, defined me as a performer and my interpretation of music and lyrics. Rest in power Billie.
